NEW DELHI — The Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) suspended its president, Javid Ahmed Kitab, with immediate effect on June 25, 2026. The association's Apex Council passed a resolution for the suspension with an 8-0 vote.

The resolution was circulated among nine eligible members of the Apex Council, following Rule 23(i) of the JKCA Constitution. Javid Ahmed Kitab did not receive the resolution as it directly concerned his conduct and suspension. Eight members voted in favor of the resolution, while one Apex Council member did not communicate a decision.

A notification from the JKCA stated that the resolution was duly passed by a majority of 8:0. It further clarified that this action was taken in accordance with Rule 23(i) read with Rule 48(6) of the JKCA Constitution. The notification confirmed Javid Ahmed Kitab's immediate suspension.

The resolution will carry the same force and validity as one passed during a properly convened Apex Council meeting, according to the JKCA notification. It will be presented at the next council meeting for ratification, as required by the constitution. The JKCA instructed all officials, employees, affiliated units, and other functionaries to implement the resolution immediately in line with the Constitution.

The suspension follows an internal decision by the governing body for cricket in Jammu and Kashmir. The process, guided by specific rules of the JKCA Constitution, dictates the procedure for such actions and mandates future ratification to ensure constitutional compliance.
