CHASKA, MINN. — Ina Yoon shot a 9-under 63 in the first round of the 2026 Women's PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota. The score matches the lowest-ever score in the tournament's history.

Yoon holds a two-stroke lead over Karis Davidson after the first round. Yoon is ranked 39th in the world. Nelly Korda and Patty Sheehan previously posted 9-under 63s at the Women's PGA Championship. Korda achieved her 63 in the second round of the 2021 Women's PGA Championship, while Sheehan shot hers in the third round of the 1984 Women's PGA Championship.

Prior to the championship, KPMG increased the purse for the event to $13 million. The $13 million purse represents the largest in women's golf history. Hannah Green won the Women's PGA Championship in 2019 at Hazeltine.

"I just hit the golf ball and it just dropped in the hole and it was really an awesome experience," Yoon said. She added that her approach involved focusing on the process. "Just try to think nothing. Focus on what I need to do. Focus on process. That part I think I did great today."

Davidson, who is second, has made cuts in 15 consecutive tournaments. Davidson described her round, stating, "Hit a lot of fairways. Hit a lot of greens. Putting was pretty on today. Really felt like I was going to hole everything. So it was a pretty perfect round."

Tim Walsh, KPMG U.S. Chair and CEO, commented on the decision to increase the prize money. "When this came across my desk with the option of what we wanted this to look like, it was such an easy decision to lean into a record-breaking purse," Walsh said. He noted KPMG's support for the event, adding, "That's almost a 500 percent increase in supporting that purse which supports these incredible female athletes. I'm so proud to do that in partnership with PGA of America and the LPGA Tour."
