SALZBURG — Wolfgang Porsche has listed the Paschinger Schlössl villa in Salzburg for sale. A real estate manager confirmed the property's availability to the Salzburger Nachrichten.

The 17th-century villa, located on the outskirts of Salzburg, was purchased by Wolfgang Porsche in 2020 for €8.4 million. The property is now listed for €12.7 million. The villa has 12 rooms.

Last autumn, Wolfgang Porsche secured permission from Salzburg city authorities for a private access road to the villa. The approved plan involved a 500-meter tunnel through a limestone hill, designed to connect a municipal car park in the city center to a subterranean garage with capacity for eight cars next to the villa. Wolfgang Porsche paid €48,000 for this planning permission, which remains valid until the end of 2028. The estimated cost of the private access road was €10 million.

A real estate manager for Wolfgang Porsche described the public discussion surrounding the private tunnel as an "envy-driven debate." Ingeborg Haller, a member of the Greens in Salzburg, stated her opposition to the project. "It cannot be that public land is being used for real estate speculation," Haller said. She added, "This is about equal rights for all." Haller further commented, "It cannot be that only those who can afford it receive permission for a private tunnel."

Salzburg Mayor Bernhard Auinger addressed the possibility of the city acquiring the property directly. Auinger stated that the city of Salzburg could not afford to buy the villa.

The Paschinger Schlössl was once the home of writer Stefan Zweig, who lived there until 1934. Zweig left Salzburg that year due to the Austro-fascist regime. He described the house as "romantic and impractical." Zweig also wrote that the house was "inaccessible to cars" and could "only be reached by climbing the more than a hundred steps" of the Kapuzinerberg.
