KANSAS CITY — The Netherlands defeated Tunisia 3-1 in a World Cup Group F soccer match on Wednesday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. This victory secured first place in Group F for the Netherlands, allowing them to advance to the knockout stage of the tournament where they will face Morocco.

Brian Brobbey scored for the Netherlands in the seventh minute of the match. Virgil van Dijk headed the ball from a free kick to assist Brobbey's goal. Tunisia's Hazem Mastouri scored in the 54th minute, resulting from a redirected corner kick. Tunisia captain Ellyes Skhiri scored an own goal, and Anis Slimane also scored an own goal in the 62nd minute, following a header by Jan Paul van Hecke.

Brobbey's goal against Tunisia marked his third goal of the World Cup. In another Group F match, Japan drew 1-1 with Sweden in Arlington, Texas, and Japan will face Brazil in the Round of 32. Tunisia had been eliminated from the tournament prior to the match against the Netherlands.

The team experienced a coaching change after their opening World Cup match, with Sabri Lamouchi being fired and Herve Renard becoming the new coach. Tunisia lost 5-1 to Sweden in their opening World Cup match and later lost 4-0 to Japan in another match. Tunisia has a winless streak of six matches. In previous Group F play, the Netherlands tied Japan 2-2 in their World Cup opener and defeated Sweden 5-1. During the match against Sweden, Brian Brobbey scored two goals, as did Cody Gakpo.
