DALLAS — The Dallas City Council approved a settlement of up to $2.8 million with Katrina Ahrens on June 25, 2026. This resolution addresses lawsuits filed by Ahrens concerning donations intended for her family after the July 7, 2016, shooting death of her husband, Senior Cpl. Lorne Ahrens.

Katrina Ahrens' lawsuits alleged that the City of Dallas allowed the Assist the Officer Foundation to access and process donations without her knowledge or consent. She further alleged that some donations were either delayed, lost, or subject to restrictions not clearly communicated to donors.

The legal proceedings saw an appeals court uphold lower court rulings that permitted Ahrens' suits to advance against the city. The Texas Supreme Court later declined to review the case.

Attorney Casey Griffith stated, "Katrina Ahrens is pleased to have reached a resolution with the City of Dallas and appreciates the city's efforts to bring that portion of the case to a close." Griffith added, "As the 10th anniversary of the attack approaches, Katrina remains focused on honoring Lorne's legacy and remembering him and his fellow officers who made the ultimate sacrifice that day."
