JACKSONVILLE — The state of Florida ordered The Sugar Factory American Brasserie in Jacksonville closed on June 8, 2026, following an inspection that found 21 violations. Six of these violations were classified as high priority.

The high-priority violations identified on June 8, 2026, included flying insects, rodent activity, a stop-sale order on food not in wholesome condition, time and temperature infractions, sanitizer solution exceeding the maximum allowed concentration, and an expired hotel and restaurant license. A return inspection on June 9, 2026, found nine uncorrected items, including high-priority violations for flying insects, rodent activity, and improper food storage temperatures.

An inspection on June 10, 2026, documented seven violations, with flying insect and rodent activity remaining as high-priority issues. By June 12, 2026, a follow-up inspection noted that the insect and rodent problems had been resolved, and the establishment was granted more time to address five other basic problems. The Sugar Factory permanently closed its Jacksonville location on or before June 21, 2026.

The Sugar Factory, located at 4910 Big Island Drive, opened in March 2023. The establishment initially operated without a state alcohol license, serving only mocktails, before later acquiring the necessary licensure. State records show the restaurant accumulated 165 citations across 21 inspection visits between 2023 and 2026.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation conducted its first inspection in August 2023. A January 12, 2026, inspection found 21 violations, which were subsequently corrected, and the restaurant passed a recommended follow-up inspection. As of June 25, 2026, the Jacksonville location of The Sugar Factory was still listed on sugarfactory.com. Kimco Realty owns the building leased by The Sugar Factory at The Markets at Town Center.
