WINDCREST, TEXAS — Developers are planning a nearly $10 million investment to build two national restaurant chains at the former Builders Mark site in Windcrest, with an anticipated opening in early 2028. This development is part of an ongoing effort by the city to attract new businesses.

Windcrest officials have been engaged in recruiting new tenants and developments for the past four years. This recruitment follows Rackspace's departure, which resulted in a more than $1 million gap in Windcrest's annual budget. Mario Hernandez, Executive Director of the Windcrest Economic Development Corp., said, "To lose a million dollars is very significant."

The former Builders Mark site has remained vacant for several years. In addition to the planned restaurant project, Windcrest sales revenue is currently trending approximately 10% higher than the previous year. The Windcrest Economic Development Corp. announced on June 17 on Facebook that a Marshall's store will open next to an existing Sketchers location near Interstate on Fourwinds Drive.

Within the last year, Windcrest has also welcomed four new food establishments and a fitness center. The city has announced three other businesses expected to open soon. Hernandez stated, "Doesn't sound like a lot, but this is a community of two-and-a-half square miles and 5,800 people."
