GLOUCESTERSHIRE — Adina Mihai, 31, and Madalin Dumitru, 30, pleaded guilty at Oxford Crown Court to the manslaughter of two men and two offenses of administering poison to two other men in southern England. Mihai and Dumitru appeared via video link at the court on Wednesday, where Mrs. Justice Brunner informed them they would receive long jail terms. The two men who survived cannot be named for legal reasons.

Between August 2024 and July 2025, Mihai and Dumitru targeted men seeking sexual services, taking financial deposits before Mihai met them at their homes. She administered GBL (gamma-butyrolactone) to the victims. GBL converts into GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) in the body, which acts as a sedative and sleep-inducing agent.

Gary Mouat, 37, was found dead at his property in Banbury on July 13, 2024. Detectives from Thames Valley Police's major crime unit determined that Mihai had poisoned Mouat with GBL by adding it to an alcoholic drink. Malcolm King, 80, was found dead at his home in a village near Cirencester, Gloucestershire, on August 21, 2024. His death was initially deemed non-suspicious due to a pre-existing health condition. Gloucestershire Police's major crime investigation team reviewed King's death, and further toxicology tests revealed Mihai had poisoned him with GBL.

Thames Valley Police discovered two additional surviving victims from the south of England who had been drugged and robbed by Mihai and Dumitru. After this discovery, detectives issued a bulletin to all other police forces to share intelligence regarding the pair. No other deaths, poisonings, or thefts have been linked to Mihai and Dumitru. The pair, formerly from Ilford in Essex, have been remanded in custody and are due to be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court at a later date.

Detective Inspector Adam Stacey said: "Adina Mihai and Madalin Dumitru targeted men who were seeking sexual services and covertly drugged to render them unconscious before stealing from them." Stacey added: "Tragically for Mr King, their callous and calculated actions had fatal consequences. Our thoughts are with Mr King's family, at what must remain an incredibly difficult time for them. We continue to support them with our specialist officers." Detective Inspector Michael Roddy stated: "For Gary Mouat, these actions had fatal consequences so I am pleased to have got answers for his family and would like to thank them for our support throughout our investigation."
