Bob Iger concluded his second tenure as Disney CEO on March 18, with Josh D'Amaro succeeding him. Iger remains on the Disney board of directors and is expected to leave the board in December.
Iger stated that Disney was involved in early conversations regarding a potential merger with Apple, where he served on the board from 2011 to 2019. "The potential merger never went anywhere and Apple did not show much interest," Iger said.
Disney acquired Pixar in May 2006 for $7.4 billion. Following this acquisition, the company identified a list of acquisition targets. "We felt unstoppable. We put together a list of acquisition targets. Marvel was one, Star Wars was another, James Bond was one. We had a list and I figured let's just tick them off and buy them all," Iger said. Amazon bought the James Bond distribution rights when it acquired MGM in 2022. Amazon paid more than $1 billion to take full creative control of the James Bond franchise in February 2025.
Iger stated that Disney came close to buying Twitter from Jack Dorsey at a very attractive price prior to Elon Musk's 2022 acquisition. He indicated that the company had plans to turn Twitter into a global distribution platform for Disney. "I walked away from the Twitter deal on the morning of the agreement over concerns that it would be a horrible distraction," Iger said. Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022 and changed its name to X.
