CHATTANOOGA — The Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at 404 Tunnel Boulevard late Tuesday night, rescuing nine people from a smoke-entrapment situation with no reported injuries. Blue Shift companies were dispatched to the address at 11:29 p.m.

Residents reported being trapped in their apartments by heavy smoke, leading several to flee to their balconies. One family with small children was among those trapped on a third-floor balcony. A second alarm was called to bring additional manpower and resources to the scene due to the reported entrapment.

Firefighters used ladders to rescue residents from balconies. Fire crews established a water supply, conducted interior searches of apartments, and initiated the fire attack. The fire was brought under control by 12:03 a.m.

Nine people were rescued from Building E, where several apartments sustained damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Responding units included Engine 15, Ladder 5, Engine 5, Squad 13, Engine 4, Engine 6, Ladder 6, Squad 1, Engine 1, Engine 10, Engine 8, Ladder 21, Engine 21, Squad 7, Battalion 1, Battalion 2, Battalion 3, and CFD Investigations. The Chattanooga Police Department, Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services, and EPB also responded to the scene.
