JACKSONVILLE — Austin Fisher pleaded guilty to murder and armed robbery charges, receiving three life terms in Florida State Prison without eligibility for parole. His sentence is connected to the deaths of Edwin Barber, Savannah Barber, and Shad Cole in Jacksonville.

Fisher received three life sentences for the murders and an additional life sentence for the armed robbery charge. Edwin Barber was 49 years old, Savannah Barber was 27 years old, and Shad Cole was 37 years old. Edwin Barber was Savannah Barber's stepfather, and Shad Cole was Savannah Barber's fiancé. Fisher had lived with the victims on Exodus Way and was a friend.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office received a call around 3 a.m. on May 28 regarding a man knocking on a front door on Exodus Way in the Normandy Estates neighborhood. District 5 Patrol officers found Edwin Barber on a front porch with a stab wound to his chest. He had been stabbed at his home and ran to a neighbor’s house for assistance. Edwin Barber later died at a hospital.

Officers found Shad Cole with multiple stab wounds on the porch of the Barber residence. They also discovered Savannah Barber inside a bedroom with multiple stab wounds. Both Savannah Barber and Shad Cole died before they could receive medical attention.

Following the stabbings, multiple individuals reported that Fisher admitted to the crimes. A man stated that Fisher told him he had killed his roommate and his roommate’s father. The State Attorney’s Office confirmed that several people contacted the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, reporting that Fisher admitted to stabbing the three victims shortly after the attack.

A rideshare driver indicated that Fisher described an argument and the stabbings. Additionally, a third witness informed investigators that Fisher admitted to stealing money and drugs from the victims after stabbing them. Another witness mentioned that Fisher was attempting to reach his mother’s house to surrender and had confessed to the stabbings. Fisher was later taken into custody at a hotel following a standoff with SWAT. Amy Barber, Savannah Barber’s mother, stated, “That’s my baby girl.”
