WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump scheduled a rally on Wednesday on the National Mall in Washington as part of celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States. The event, organized as "The Great American State Fair," features a military flyover by stealth bombers and military bands. President Trump is scheduled to deliver a speech.

Musicians Young MC, Martina McBride, and the Commodores canceled their concerts for the event, citing concerns that the event had become politicized. Singer Lee Greenwood is scheduled to perform, and country singer Alexis Wilkins announced she would perform.

President Trump posted on social media, describing himself as the "Greatest President in History" and the "Number One Attraction anywhere in the World." In a video, he stated the event would be "the biggest rally we've ever had." Regarding the lineup, he said, "It's our music, our playlist. We don't have a lot of people boring you with songs you don't want to hear. We have the hottest people."

Representative Jared Huffman commented on the event, stating, "It should be about bringing us together. He's trying to make this 250th celebration all about him." According to Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research polling, President Trump's approval rating stands at 37%. His favorability rating is 40% on immigration and 34% on Iran. Polling data indicates 33% of U.S. adults approve of President Trump's economic leadership.

Daniel Treisman, a politics professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, said, "It's clear that Trump's preoccupations in his second term — from Iran to the Washington reflecting pool — are not those of most members of his base, let alone other Americans. That explains his unusually low approval ratings."
