UTAH — Preliminary election results for the Utah Senate District 7 Republican primary show Stephanie Hollist with approximately 43% of the vote, while incumbent Stuart Adams received approximately 35% of the vote. Braden Hess received approximately 22% of the vote in the primary.

Adams, who serves as the President of the Utah Senate, has held the District 7 seat for 16 years, representing an area that includes Davis and Morgan counties. This election marked the first time he faced a primary challenge in his career.

Hollist stated she was not ready to declare victory based on the early results. "I wish it was a bigger lead," Hollist said. She added, "I think it’s still too close to be determined at this point."

During a candidate forum, Hollist stated she would look for ways to reform the Military Installation Development Authority (MIDA). Hess called for the repeal of MIDA at the same forum. Adams had previously served as chair of MIDA.

MIDA gave initial approval to a data center project proposed by Kevin O'Leary in Box Elder County. The proposed data center project area covered 40,000 acres before O'Leary stated he would reduce its size by half. Adams referenced his legislative record regarding the base, stating, "Nobody’s done more to protect Hill Air Force Base and protect the economic validity of this area." He added, "I’m proud of that record, and it’s one of the great things I’ve been able to accomplish as a legislator."

The winner of the Republican primary will advance to the November general election to face Democrat Garret Rushforth and Constitution Party candidate Jeffrey Ostler. Election results are not considered final until after a two-week county canvass period and the statewide canvass, which is scheduled for July 20.
