JACKSONVILLE — Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, Rashad Murphy, and Davion Murphy were sentenced to life in prison without parole on Monday for the fatal ambush shooting of rapper Charles "Julio Foolio" Jones in Jacksonville, Florida. Davion Murphy and Rashad Murphy received additional life sentences for conspiracy to commit murder and three counts of attempted murder. Sean Gathright was sentenced to 30 years for conspiracy to commit murder and 30 years for each of three counts of attempted murder.

Life sentences for murder are mandatory under Florida law. Prosecutors had sought the death penalty for the four defendants, but the jury recommended life without parole.

Chance issued a statement saying, "It ain't worth it." He added, "Like, me being a rapper from my city and Julio being a rapper from our city, it ain't worth it. The dissing, the beefing the shooting, like for what? Like, for what?"

Chance described the experience of incarceration, saying, "Like, when you're sitting in your cell alone, cold, lonely as hell, everybody leave you." He continued, "Like, nobody here for you. Like the ones that's ride or die, your girlfriends, whoever you love, the only person there for you is your mother and maybe like one friend, maybe, but it ain't worth it though, bro."

Judge Michelle Sisco addressed the defendants during the sentencing. "Each of you still has a life of value, and going forward, the quality of the life that you have every day will come down to the choices you make," Judge Sisco said. She expressed a hope for change within the community, stating, "I hope that, at least in the community in Jacksonville, there are serious changes."

Court documents indicated that the attack on Charles Jones was a retaliatory act stemming from an ongoing gang conflict involving 6Block, Ace's Top Killers (ATK), and 1200. Charles Jones was identified as a member of the 6Block gang. Detectives testified that social media was used to track gang members and their activities during the trials.
