JACKSONVILLE — Latorray Collins, 40, pleaded guilty to attempted murder in connection with a shooting and received a sentence of 12 years in prison on June 18, 2026. The shooting occurred in February 2025 at the intersection of McDuff Avenue and Post Street in Jacksonville, Florida.

Collins initially entered a plea of not guilty before changing it to guilty prior to her sentencing. Court documents indicated that Collins faced a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison for the charge. Police stated the female passenger involved in the incident was shot in the head, and officers located a .380 caliber shell casing near where the victim was discovered.

Collins' ex-boyfriend informed officers that he had recently ended his relationship with her. On the day of the shooting, Collins had been calling and texting him to retrieve his belongings. He told officers he instructed Collins to discard his belongings as he no longer wanted them. He also stated he had planned a night out with a former female partner, along with her relatives and friends, who were traveling in a separate black Mitsubishi. While driving to a restaurant on King Street, he received multiple unanswered phone calls from Collins.

He told officers Collins drove her car around the passenger side of his vehicle and turned in front of him at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and Post Street. He reversed and swerved around Collins' car, but she continued to follow him along Post Street. Collins then approached his vehicle and knocked on his window at the intersection of McDuff Avenue, leading to an argument. He said Collins argued with a female passenger in the black Mitsubishi after the passenger inquired about Collins' identity. Occupants of the black Mitsubishi exited their vehicle during this argument, and he positioned himself between Collins and the other individuals in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. He subsequently heard a gunshot and saw the female passenger fall to the ground. An occupant of Collins' vehicle provided police with a version of events that aligned with the statements given by the ex-boyfriend.
