BUDAPEST — Hungary's National Bureau of Investigation arrested a 30-year-old man in Budapest on June 17 on suspicion of illegally using human bodies. The suspect, employed as an orderly at a hospital, is currently being held while authorities investigate allegations that he collected human body parts from abandoned cemeteries and his workplace.

According to police statements, investigators suspect the man obtained remains by digging up bodies in abandoned cemeteries in both Slovakia and Hungary. During a search of the suspect's apartment, forensic teams seized multiple items, including skulls, a complete lower leg, a hand, and other bones stored in a suitcase. Investigators also recovered a reconstruction of a human face prepared from facial skin.

A heart preserved in a jar was discovered at the scene, and authorities are working to determine whether the organ is of human or animal origin. Police indicated they had received prior information suggesting the man was storing body parts at both his home and his place of employment. All recovered biological materials will undergo examination by forensic experts to establish their origins.

During questioning, the arrested man admitted to collecting the body parts. He further stated that he had prepared food from human remains and consumed them. Law enforcement officers seized the suspect's computer, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, SIM cards, and data cards as part of the ongoing investigation. Police have indicated that the range of alleged crimes could expand once the origin of all the recovered body parts is determined.
