U.S. — The Marshall Project announced the relaunch of its video series, "Inside Story," for a third season on June 22, 2026. The new season focuses on short-form video storytelling for social media platforms and YouTube. Lawrence Bartley hosts the series, and Donald Washington Jr. serves as co-creator and director.
The organization will continue to distribute the series within prisons and jails in the United States and Canada. Previous seasons reached incarcerated audiences in more than 1,400 facilities and general audiences through Scripps and VICE. The series previously earned recognition as a Peabody finalist.
The third season will feature segments on the workplaces and daily lives of formerly incarcerated individuals, along with interview segments with Bartley and figures connected to the criminal justice system. First-person reflections from incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people will also be included. A new format called "Explainers" aims to break down criminal justice issues. "When the news moves fast on criminal justice, 'Inside Story' is where you slow down and get it right — context, history, and nuance from people who've lived it, backed by a Pulitzer Prize-winning newsroom," Bartley said.
The first segment of the new season follows Eddie McLoughlin, who spent 25 years in prison, including time on death row, for a murder committed as a young man. McLoughlin leads Fellowship House, a year-long, faith-based community for incarcerated men at the North Dakota State Penitentiary. Union Theological Seminary sponsors this first segment. The Marshall Project, founded in 2014, reaches an incarcerated audience through tablets in more than 1,800 prisons and jails across the United States. The organization has received over 100 journalism honors, including two Pulitzer Prizes.
