CHICAGO — Morningstar Farms initiated a voluntary recall of its Buffalo Chik'n Nuggets and Hot and Spicy Sausage Patties due to the presence of plastic pieces in the food. The recalled products were distributed in supermarkets across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica.

The recall follows customer complaints regarding a limited number of both product varieties, according to a spokesperson for Mars, the parent company of the Chicago-based brand. No injuries have been reported in connection with the recall. The press release detailing the action was dated June 18.

The Buffalo Chik'n Nuggets were sold in 10.5-ounce bags with UPC code 000 28989 10110 5. These nuggets have best-by dates of July 7 and July 8, 2027. The Hot and Spicy Sausage Patties were available in 8-ounce bags, identified by UPC code 000 28989 10094 8, and carry best-by dates of July 5, July 6, and July 7, 2027.

"In Morningstar Farms, protecting the safety and well-being of our consumers is our top priority," the spokesperson said in the press release. The spokesperson added that the company acted quickly upon learning of the potential issue. "As soon as we learned of a potential issue, we acted quickly to investigate and identify any food produced that could be affected." The company stated it has addressed the problem. "We have fixed the problem and strengthened our quality control procedures to prevent a similar situation from happening again in the future," the spokesperson said. No other Morningstar Farms products were impacted by this recall.
