BAYTOWN — Kristy Smillie, a supervisor at the Baytown Post Office, was arrested on June 5, 2026, after allegedly attempting to sell a stolen autographed basketball card during an undercover sting operation. Investigators also found drugs and prescription pills in her car.

An undercover investigator contacted the eBay profile "sidekick2019" to arrange the purchase of the card for $700. The transaction was set for June 5, 2026, in a Baytown parking lot. Police recovered the card during the meeting and arrested the 44-year-old Smillie.

During the sting, investigators detected the smell of perfume and marijuana in Smillie's car, according to a search warrant affidavit. They located approximately 30 grams of marijuana, 2 grams of powder THC, and more than 44 grams of Adderall-type pills in prescription bottles with their labels removed. Smillie was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Smillie initially claimed to investigators that a colleague had given her the basketball card after finding it in a dumpster behind the post office. Investigators noted in an affidavit that Smillie admitted taking an item that did not belong to her would constitute theft, even if her account were true. Investigators photographed Smillie's desk, noting it appeared to be the location where the photo for the eBay listing was taken. Additionally, a U.S. Mail Ground Advantage parcel addressed to another individual was found in Smillie's trunk.

Court records indicate Smillie worked at the Baytown Post Office for over eight years. She has since been released from jail on personal bond. The U.S. Postal Service confirmed that Smillie is currently in a non-duty status. Investigators are also examining Smillie's phone for potential connections to other mail theft victims.
