KANSAS CITY — Five shootings occurred in Kansas City, Missouri, on Tuesday between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., resulting in one fatality and four injuries. The incidents took place within a 5-mile stretch of the city.

Three of the shootings happened on Interstates 70 and 670. The injured individuals included three adults and one minor, all of whom were hospitalized. Only one adult victim sustained life-threatening injuries. An Uber driver, who was transporting Argentina soccer fans to a World Cup match, was injured in one of the shooting; the driver's injuries were not life-threatening.

Two American Argentina fans reported that a vehicle pulled alongside their Uber and fired two shots, hitting their driver in the leg. Police Captain Jacob Becchina stated in an email, "Victims all indicated they were driving down the highway or roadway when one or more shots were fired into their vehicles." Detectives believe the non-fatal shootings occurred in close succession from west to east and were connected to one suspect.

The fatal shooting victim died after crashing into a pole on Truman Road around 6:30 p.m. Hospital workers treating the victim discovered what appeared to be a gunshot wound. A 22-year-old male suspect remained at large as of Thursday.

Police tracked the suspect to a home in Independence, Missouri, but did not find him when they entered the residence at approximately 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Kansas City, Kansas, police have a warrant for the suspect regarding an illegal discharge of a firearm on June 11.
