HOWELL — Workers from Titan Plumbing in Howell, Michigan, discovered an engagement ring while responding to an emergency call regarding a sewer line at a Hartland shopping plaza. The ring had been lost for more than 10 years.
Greg Johnson, the owner of Titan Plumbing, described finding the ring. "He picked it up, and we looked at each other, and he was like, 'What do we do with this?' I'm like, 'Let's see if we can find the owner,'" Johnson said. The company then posted about the discovery on social media in an attempt to locate the owner.
A woman identified as Sue, who works at the Fountain of Youth Spa, recognized details in the post. Johnson stated, "She remembered 10 years ago that a customer that was in her store dropped her ring down the toilet, and Sue and this customer tried to fish it out themselves. They got big rubber gloves, and they were reaching in the toilet trying to get this ring out, and it was gone." Sue then contacted Carol Oram, the ring's owner, who subsequently connected with Titan Plumbing.
Jason Matznick, the general manager of Titan Plumbing, noted that Oram provided proof of ownership. "She finally came in and saw the ring and said, 'It looks like mine.' She had original paperwork from 1965. She had been married with her husband for like 60 years," Matznick said. The ring, made of white gold, was later cleaned and polished by The Gold Depot.
Upon its return, Matznick stated, "She put it on; she was crying. It was cute." Oram's husband is named Roger.
