Apple announced iOS 27 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), introducing updates to Apple Maps, Find My, Wallet, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, iCloud Shared Albums, and Fitness+.
Apple Maps received an update to its "Flyover" feature, which includes more detailed visuals and smoother navigation. The application introduced "Local Lists," enabling users to discover and save recommendations for restaurants, attractions, and other locations. The Find My app added new location-sharing controls, allowing users to share their location for a custom amount of time ranging from minutes to days or until a specific date. Users can also temporarily pause location sharing with individual contacts until the end of the day.
Apple Wallet in iOS 27 allows users to scan receipts using the iPhone camera and automatically split bills with friends using Apple Cash. This bill-splitting feature is powered by Apple Intelligence, which can identify individual receipt items and calculate each person's share of taxes and tips. Repayment for split bills can occur directly through Messages or Wallet. Additionally, Wallet supports digitizing physical membership and loyalty cards, and users can save these by pointing their iPhone camera at a barcode or scanning a digital card. This digitized card support extends to Apple Watch, where passes can be pinned to the Smart Stack.
A revamped hotel key experience is included in Apple Wallet, providing guests at participating hotels with access to trip details, activity schedules, service information, and real-time updates within the app. Apple Pay received a redesigned online and in-app checkout experience, enabling users to swipe between payment cards while viewing information such as rewards balances and available pay-later options. Later this year, users will be able to add funds directly to eligible debit cards through Wallet or during Apple Pay checkout. Apple is also expanding its "Tap to Pay" on iPhone with a new feature called "Tap to Share," which allows customers to connect with participating merchants to securely share information like loyalty accounts, shipping addresses, and contact details.
Apple Music expanded its "Lyrics Translation" feature to support seven additional language pairings, including English translations for songs in French, German, Italian, Korean, Spanish, and Japanese. "Lyrics Pronunciation" now displays phonetically translated lyrics across five new language pairings. The "AutoMix" feature was enhanced with more immersive mixes and is expanding beyond iPhone to Apple TV and HomePod. Apple Music subscribers also received access to Hi-Res Lossless Audio on Apple TV 4K.
Apple Podcasts introduced a "search within show" feature, allowing users to search directly through episodes of a specific podcast on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision Pro, and the web. Apple is also bringing video podcasts to Mac and Apple TV. iCloud Shared Albums now offers full-resolution photo sharing, support for additional file types, emoji reactions, and improved activity feeds that allow users to view activity on a per-album basis. New temporary albums were introduced for short-term projects and events, allowing groups to collaborate without permanently taking up iCloud storage. People who do not have Apple devices can contribute photos to iCloud Shared Albums through the web.
Fitness+ launched "Strong Through Menopause," a three-week program featuring guided Yoga and Strength workouts designed to help individuals navigating perimenopause and menopause build strength, improve mobility and balance, and manage stress. A new "Time to Walk" episode features actor Busy Philipps, who shares personal stories about her experiences with perimenopause. The new iOS 27 features are available for developers to test through the Apple Developer Program, with a public beta arriving next month.
