LONDON — Dave Grohl attended therapy six days a week for 70 weeks, totaling more than 430 sessions, following the deaths of his Foo Fighters bandmate Taylor Hawkins and his mother. The musician disclosed his intensive therapy regimen during an interview.

Hawkins died in 2022, and Grohl's mother died four months later. Grohl said he experienced the two deaths in a row as almost too much to feel.

"I wasn't sitting with myself and really letting [feelings] go from my head into my heart. Getting to the point where I was just like, 'I need to stop, turn everything off and find my heart,'" he said.

The musician also publicly revealed in 2024 that he had fathered a child outside his marriage. "I've recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her," he wrote in an Instagram statement.

He recounted that he fell asleep on a couch in front of a television and dreamed that Hawkins was sitting next to him. "It was so fucking real. He was happy. His hair looked great; he was tan," Grohl said.

He said writing songs and lyrics about personal challenges was sometimes enough, and he needed to stop, sit with himself, and re-evaluate himself as an ongoing process.

Grohl said he has always kept his boots on the ground and kept going after the losses of Kurt Cobain and Taylor Hawkins.
