FAYETTE COUNTY — Carlos Mugica, 54, and Jennifer Salazar Mugica, 46, died in a car crash on Interstate 10 in Fayette County. The couple was traveling from Houston to Castle Hills at the time of the incident.
Jennifer Salazar Mugica worked as an assistant principal at Longfellow Middle School in the San Antonio Independent School District. Longfellow Middle School sent a letter to parents on Saturday, notifying them of her death and informing them that counselors would be available to students.
Carlos Mugica worked as a realtor and volunteered with the Rey Feo Consejo Educational Foundation.
Carlos Mugica and Jennifer Salazar Mugica had been married for a few years. Taylor Onofre, another daughter of Carlos Mugica, spoke with him via video call the day before their trip to Houston. Onofre had given birth one month prior to the crash. "I was just on Facetime the day before he left on his trip. We were on Facetime because he wanted to see his granddaughter," Taylor Onofre said. "He has on his desk all these toys of 'Star Wars.' He loved 'Star Wars.' She was a sweet, loving and kind woman."
Carlie Jo Mugica stated the family is processing the deaths. "I think we're still in shock. We feel like we're in a twilight zone, honestly," she said. "Dad and Jennifer, they served God's mission. Their purpose is done and now God has called them home," Carlie Jo Mugica said.
