WESTPORT, IRELAND — Mark Carney, the Canadian Prime Minister, made comments in Ireland concerning artificial intelligence in advance of the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France. He addressed the overreliance on models such as Anthropic's Mythos and Fable.

Carney stated that artificial intelligence would be a primary topic of discussion at the G7 summit. He spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron for 45 minutes on Friday night regarding artificial intelligence. Carney indicated that the issues surrounding AI are complex and a resolution would not be immediately reached, stating, "There will not be a mission accomplished banner that comes out of the summit because the issues are complex."

The Trump administration issued a directive that restricted foreign nationals from accessing Anthropic artificial intelligence models. As a result, Anthropic removed its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models from public access on Friday to comply with the U.S. government directive. U.S. export controls restrict international access to advanced artificial intelligence systems.

The company launched the Fable model for widespread public use recently. The Fable model functions as a limited version of the Mythos model. The company had previously restricted direct access to the Mythos model due to cybersecurity concerns. The company, headquartered in San Francisco, California, announced the release of the Mythos model on April 7. The company stated that the Mythos model is capable of surpassing human cybersecurity experts in identifying and exploiting computer vulnerabilities.

Carney emphasized the need for diversification in AI models. "The situation we're in collectively right now with Mythos and Fable is something that can happen with overreliance on certain models. Nobody has done anything wrong in the situation. But we will have done something wrong if we just accept this, don't take the lesson, don't build out and diversify." Carney said.
