WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former President Donald Trump showed off a classified map during a June 2022 flight to his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, according to a letter from Rep. Jamie Raskin. Trump held onto a record from his first term that was so sensitive that only six people would have had access to it, according to the letter.

The allegations emerged from a Department of Justice memo from January 2023 that recounted evidence prosecutors said they had accumulated as they moved toward a felony indictment of Trump that would be filed months later. During the June 2022 flight to his golf club in Bedminster, Trump apparently took classified documents, according to the Department of Justice memo.

Susie Wiles was on the June 2022 flight to Bedminster and witnessed the episode, according to the Department of Justice memo. The FBI determined that Trump appeared to have retained classified documents pertinent to his business interests, according to Raskin's letter.

Special counsel Jack Smith led the Department of Justice's investigation into Trump's retention of classified documents. The investigation resulted in felony charges accusing Trump of hoarding top-secret records and obstructing FBI efforts to retrieve them.

A grand jury indictment alleged that Trump boasted of having held onto a Pentagon plan of attack that was prepared for him. Trump has denied wrongdoing in connection with retaining classified documents.

"It's pathetic that Democrats with zero credibility like Jamie Raskin are still clinging to deranged Jack Smith and his lies in 2026," said White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson. "President Trump did nothing wrong, which is why he easily defeated the Biden DOJ's unprecedented lawfare campaign against him and then won nearly 80 million votes in a landslide election victory."

"Smith's team was desperate to prosecute Biden's top political opponent, so it is no surprise that his files contain salacious and untrue claims about President Trump," the Justice Department said.

Rep. Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, requested information about the identities of the passengers on the flight to Bedminster and the country depicted on the classified map in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi. "It is now clear that DOJ is in possession of evidence that President Trump has already endangered national security to further the interests of Trump family businesses," he wrote.

Trump insisted that he was entitled to keep the classified documents when he left the White House in 2021 following his election loss to Joe Biden. Trump claimed that he had declassified the classified documents.
