SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Giants defeated the Washington Nationals 11-10 on June 10, 2026. The Giants achieved this victory after trailing 9-1 as they entered the bottom of the eighth inning.
Bryce Eldridge hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure the win. Washington had extended their lead to 10-6 in the top of the ninth inning by adding a run. Eldridge's grand slam was hit off a 2-0 slider thrown by Nationals pitcher Mitchell Parker.
This victory ended a streak of 4,291 consecutive losses for major league teams that trailed by at least eight runs in the eighth inning or later. Eldridge, at 21 years and 233 days old, became the youngest player in major league history to hit a walk-off grand slam. Eldridge stated, "I want to be the face of this franchise. I want to be in that moment. I want to be that guy, so it was pretty special."
Giants rookie first baseman Eldridge was called up by the team on May 3, 2026. He had hit four home runs during the 2026 season prior to this game. Eldridge grew up in Northern Virginia as a Washington Nationals fan.
Giants starter Robbie Ray allowed five runs and seven hits over four and two-thirds innings. Reiver Sanmartin was credited with the win in his 2026 debut for the Giants. Mitchell Parker entered the game with the bases loaded and surrendered the game-ending home run, while Nationals reliever Gabe Varland allowed two doubles and a walk without recording an out in the ninth inning.
Matt Chapman recorded four hits, including two home runs, for the Giants. Jung Hoo Lee hit a single to extend his hitting streak to 18 games, and Luis Arraez hit a double in the ninth inning. For the Nationals, James Wood hit his 18th home run of the season in the third inning, and Curtis Mead hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning. Daylen Lile recorded four hits for Washington. Rafael Devers hit a home run in the eighth inning. The Giants' season record was 28 wins and 41 losses.
