NEW YORK CITY — Singer Demi Lovato addressed criticism of her performance of "Heart Attack" for the American Heart Association during a radio interview. The performance took place at the 2024 Women Red Dress Collection Concert as part of Lovato's 10-song set.

The concert was intended to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease. After her performance, Demi Lovato received online criticism.

During a radio interview, Lovato explained the circumstances behind the performance. "They asked me to sing that. I flagged it beforehand and was like, 'Isn't this, like, not the vibe?' They were like, 'No, they wanna hear it,'" Lovato said.

"Y'all, it wasn't me! I flagged it!" she said during the interview.

At the concert, Lovato had introduced the song by drawing connections between its themes and health awareness. "While my next song is about the intense feelings that come with falling in love as well as heart break, opening yourself up, taking risks and not being afraid to do it again, this song has many parallels for me — my journey and a reminder for all of us in the room just how strong the mind-heart-body connection truly is," Lovato said before performing the song.
