FATIH DISTRICT, ISTANBUL — A natural gas explosion occurred at noon Sunday in Istanbul's central Fatih district, bringing down two buildings and trapping nine people under the rubble.
Search and rescue personnel were immediately dispatched to the site. Seven people were recovered and are undergoing treatment in nearby hospitals. An eighth person was recovered and sent to a hospital.
Rescue operations are still working to find the final person. None of the injured is in critical condition.
One of the collapsed buildings was two stories tall and the other building was one story tall.
