OAKLAND — Ariana Grande released the single "Hate That I Made You Love Me" on May 29, 2026. The track serves as the first single from her upcoming eighth studio album, Petal, scheduled for release on July 31, 2026, via BabyDoll/Republic Records.

Grande previewed the song with a post on Instagram that read only "hate that i made you love me," without an image or additional text. The post received over 1.9 million likes within the first day. An official music video for the single, directed by Christian Breslauer, premiered on June 1, 2026, at 8 a.m. PST and co-stars Justin Long.

Grande described the album Petal as "a little feral." She said the project was shaped by a desire to shed emotional burdens. "It was kind of about breaking up with all different kinds of negative attachments — whether it’s my own monsters in my own head, external voices, things that no longer serve me," she said. Grande and Ilya executive produced and co-wrote the album. The song "Hate That I Made You Love Me" was produced by Ilya and Max Martin.

Petal follows Grande’s 2024 album Eternal Sunshine, which was released via Republic Records and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in early 2024. In discussing her creative approach, Grande said, "It was a writing experiment for me to use that as a template so that I could be talking about one thing and sharing something, and people could use it however they want and apply it to their own lives."
