Swimply raised $10 million in a funding round led by Norwest Venture Partners. The company operates an app that allows pool owners to rent out their swimming pools by the hour.

The platform currently lists about 15,000 pools across the United States, Canada, and Australia. CEO Bunim Laskin said the company is expanding beyond pools by adding hot tubs and other amenities.

Swimply started listing hot tubs on its platform last year. The company is also working to offer swimming lessons by listing swim instructors who can provide private lessons in pools available through the app.

This year, Swimply is launching a summer pass to give its most frequent users a discount. Laskin said the company is considering adding other types of facilities to its platform, including basketball courts and music studios.

Founded in 2018, Swimply still relies mostly on word of mouth to recruit new pool owners to its platform, Laskin said. The company operates in a market where there are about 10.7 million pools in the United States, according to the U.S. Pool and Hot Tub Alliance.

In-ground pools cost $65,000 to build on average and between $3,000 and $6,000 a year in electricity, chemical treatments, water, and other inputs, according to Pool Guard. The high costs of pool ownership may create opportunities for pool rental services like Swimply.
