WEST DES MOINES — Kristin Ramsey was indicted by a Dallas County grand jury Tuesday on a charge of first-degree murder in the April 8, 2011, killing of Ashley Okland. Dallas County, Iowa, jail records show Ramsey, 53, was booked Tuesday and is being held in lieu of $2 million cash bail.

Ashley Okland, 27, was killed on April 8, 2011 while working at an open house in a West Des Moines townhouse development. An employee of the development company found Okland after she was shot inside a model home. The employee dialed 911 after finding Okland. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

West Des Moines Assistant Police Chief Jody Hayes said that no other arrests are expected in connection with the case. Hayes declined to provide additional investigative details, including a possible motive or the evidence that led to Ramsey's arrest, citing the judicial process.

Ashley Okland's younger sister expressed relief at the development in the case. "Hope in finding answers and having any justice for Ashley," she said. "It was really difficult to accept that the case had gone cold." The sister described the arrest "As a true gift from God that we feel fortunate to be touched by."

Okland became a real estate agent with Iowa Realty in 2010. Ramsey began working for Midland Title & Escrow several months after Okland was killed.

Iowa Cold Cases is a nonprofit organization that compiles information on unsolved killings. The case had been among those tracked by such organizations after it went cold following the initial investigation.
