CARDIFF — Kiran Carlson scored 109 runs off 45 balls to lead Glamorgan to a seven-wicket victory over Somerset in a T20 Blast match at Sophia Gardens on June 1. Glamorgan chased down Somerset’s total of 171 for 9 with 37 balls remaining.

Carlson struck 13 fours and six sixes during his innings and shared a 146-run partnership with Will Smale. His century was the second-fastest T20 hundred in Glamorgan’s history, behind only Chris Cooke’s 38-ball effort.

“It felt like deja vu—it was really cool against one of our closest rivals, Friday night, big crowd. It was really special,” Carlson told BBC Sport Wales after the match. “I nicked my first 30 runs over third man, but from there managed to find the middle a bit, rode my luck and it was good fun.”

Carlson, who previously set a county record with 135 against Somerset at the same venue two seasons earlier, now has two T20 centuries for Glamorgan. He is only the second player to achieve multiple T20 hundreds for the club, behind injured teammate Colin Ingram, who has three.

“It's really good fun batting together with Smaley [Will Smale] once we get going—we were having a good time. To be able to put in a performance like that after losing off the last ball twice, shows where we're at as a squad, so I'm really proud of the lads,” he said.

Glamorgan had lost their first two games of the competition in last-ball finishes. The team also navigated roster changes ahead of the match: Nathan McAndrew took four wickets for 15 runs on his debut, while Jimmy Neesham made his first appearance less than 24 hours after arriving from Auckland. Faz Farooqi, who had taken six wickets in Glamorgan’s first two matches, withdrew after Afghanistan’s national board required him to return to Kabul for fitness tests.

“It's always nice to have a good performance early in the tournament coming into a new team, it just lets you take a breath and settle, but it's just about trying to play my role for the team,” McAndrew said.

Glamorgan next faces Somerset again on June 4, followed by away matches against Worcestershire on June 5 and Lancashire at Blackpool on June 7.
