LONDON — Kieran Trippier will leave Newcastle United when his contract expires in summer 2026 and join Wolverhampton Wanderers on a free transfer. Trippier has verbally agreed to the move and is expected to sign a two-year contract with Wolverhampton, with an option for a further 12 months.

Trippier joined Newcastle United in January 2022 and made 160 appearances for the club, scoring four goals. He was part of the Newcastle squad that won the Carabao Cup in 2025, the club’s first domestic silverware since 1955.

The 34-year-old retired from international duty in 2024. His move to Wolverhampton comes as the club prepares for life in the Championship after finishing last in the Premier League in the 2025–2026 season. Wolverhampton won only three Premier League games during that campaign and were relegated.

Rob Edwards is the manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Trippier is expected to be his first summer signing. The club has prioritized homegrown signings and recognizes a need for more experienced players who understand English football culture. Wolverhampton currently has no room in its squad for additional non-homegrown players unless further departures occur.

Goalkeeper Jose Sa and forward Hwang Hee-chan are expected to leave Wolverhampton, along with midfielder Ladislav Krejci. The departures could free up non-homegrown slots ahead of Trippier’s arrival. Young winger Mateus Mane, who had a breakthrough season, is expected to stay at the club.

According to the BBC, Kieran Trippier and Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed on a deal. Daily Mail reporter Simon Jones reported that Trippier was nearing a move to the club.
