WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) co-chairs the weekly U.S. House prayer breakfasts and has lived for years at the C Street Center, a Washington, D.C. townhouse operated by the Fellowship Foundation. In January 2026, Suozzi joined Rep. John Moolenaar (R-MI), his C Street roommate, on a trip to El Salvador as part of a Fellowship Foundation initiative to support President Nayib Bukele.

During the visit, Suozzi and Moolenaar, accompanied by Fellowship leaders, helped launch a Salvadoran prayer breakfast. At the event, Suozzi told Bukele, "You’ve achieved a miracle," referring to developments in the country. Civil-rights groups stated that Bukele’s "miracle" involved suspending civil rights and imprisoning thousands of people. Suozzi met with dissidents in El Salvador the day before his remarks at the Salvadoran National Prayer Breakfast but did not publicly articulate their concerns.

Suozzi pays $800 per month in rent at the C Street Center, a rate consistent with disclosures from House reimbursement records and lower than typical Washington rentals, even in less expensive neighborhoods. Residents, including members of Congress, receive below-market rates and services from college volunteers provided by The Fellowship. The C Street Center, also known as C Street, is owned by a nonprofit controlled by four Fellowship insiders, all Republican donors. The C Street Center is technically a church and does not disclose its financial backers.

An ethics watchdog stated that the low rents at C Street could constitute illegal gifts. It is not publicly known who subsidizes the reduced rental rates, and neither Suozzi nor Moolenaar responded to emailed questions about their C Street lodgings.

Suozzi has been a leader of The Fellowship’s National Prayer Breakfast and has participated in the organization’s National Student Leadership Forum on Faith and Values. At the 2026 Fellowship prayer breakfast, only two Democrats spoke: Reps. Jonathan Jackson (D-IL) and Lou Correa (D-CA). Suozzi joined an on-stage singalong at the event and has sung at Fellowship gatherings with Moolenaar and Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI).
