NEW YORK — Christian Scott earned his first career Major League Baseball victory and Hayden Senger hit his first career home run as the New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 6-1 on May 30, 2026, at Citi Field.

Scott allowed one run and five hits over five innings while striking out eight batters, matching his career high. He recorded five swings-and-misses on 16 swings against his sweeper pitch and was charged with a pitch clock violation before throwing his first pitch. Scott has now allowed four or fewer runs in each of his first 16 career Major League starts, setting a Mets franchise record. The win ended a 15-start winless streak that was the second-longest career-opening drought for a pitcher who worked exclusively as a starter.

Senger, 29, serves as Luis Torrens’ backup catcher for the Mets, at least until Francisco Alvarez returns. His first career home run came during the same game in which Scott secured his first win. “I knew that was his first win, so I just congratulated him and he congratulated me. And we’re both very happy for each other.” Senger added, “I think it’s a really cool thing. I kind of thought we would do it together. I just kind of had a feeling.”

Scott missed the entire 2025 season recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in September 2024. “I never thought it’d take this long to get my first win. Hopefully, it doesn’t take as long to get the second one.” After the game, the Mets posted on social media a clip of Senger and Scott embracing in the tunnel from the dugout to the clubhouse. Clubhouse workers exchanged Mets memorabilia for the baseball from Senger’s home run.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza praised Scott’s performance. “His stuff is very swing and miss and when he's in the zone and he's locating that heater at the top, it's pretty tough to hit,” Senger said of his teammate. Mendoza added, “If we can get that version, which I’m pretty confident we will, that’s another factor for us to turn this thing around, right there. He’s too talented. He’s got electric stuff and he’s going to continue to help us.” Mendoza also noted, “I did not realize it was Scott’s first career win, because of how well he pitched for us in 2024.” He called it “first of many.”
