ARLINGTON — Paige Bueckers spoke during a break in Dallas Wings practice on May 28, 2026, about the challenges of media scrutiny and public attention while embracing her role as a high-profile WNBA rookie. She acknowledged that constant analysis of her actions can be overwhelming but emphasized her commitment to being a positive role model.

"Yeah, I’m not going to lie, it gets annoying, like, sometimes, it gets annoying. People constantly in your business, the paranoia that runs among reporters. Knowing that every single move you make will get analyzed. And, like, on the human side, it’s not ideal and something that you want to deal with," Bueckers said.

Bueckers admitted she cares about others’ opinions of her and strives to live a Christ-like life in how she shows up. Her on-court performance has matched her off-court resolve: through eight games in the 2026 WNBA season, she is averaging 19.4 points while shooting 50.9% from the field, 45.7% from three-point range, and 79.4% from the free-throw line. She leads the Wings in minutes played at 33.3 per game.

Her recent technical foul, issued during a May 30 game against Atlanta, was rescinded by the WNBA on June 2. Bueckers said she was penalized for showing passion and joy during a team run. "I was hyped and showing passion and joy and I got penalized for that," she said.

Teammate Alysha Clark, who had a friendly wager with Bueckers that she wouldn’t receive a technical foul this season, supported the reversal. "I gave her a little something to send in with it. I just felt it wasn’t warranted. If I’m going to win money out of her I want it to be legit. I want to be able to sleep at night. I don’t want that it’s not deserving to get her money," Clark said. Bueckers also noted she would never want to be a referee, calling it an extremely hard job where officials face as much criticism as players.
