HARTFORD, CONN. — Aneesah Morrow recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds as the Connecticut Sun defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 84-81 at PeoplesBank Arena on Saturday night. The victory ended a three-game losing streak for the Sun, whose previous three defeats had all come by double-digit margins.

Morrow now leads the WNBA with seven double-doubles this season. Her performance anchored a balanced Connecticut offense that also featured contributions from Kennedy Burke, who scored 14 points, and Diamond Miller and Leila Lacan, each adding 12 points. Lacan made her season debut in the game.

The Sun tied their season high with 11 steals in the contest. Their defense played a key role in the fourth quarter when the Sparks endured a prolonged field goal drought. After Erica Wheeler made a layup 27 seconds into the final period, Los Angeles did not convert another field goal until Wheeler’s layup with 3:38 remaining.

Nneka Ogwumike followed that basket with a three-point play, cutting into Connecticut’s lead. Less than a minute later, Ariel Atkins hit two free throws to bring the Sparks within three points. Rae Burrell then drained a 3-pointer with 52 seconds left to make it 81-79.

The Sparks did not score again after Burrell’s shot. Connecticut held on to secure the win despite Brittney Griner’s return from a four-game absence due to a rib injury. Griner left the game for good late in the first half after appearing to suffer an eye injury and finished with nine points.

For Los Angeles, Atkins and Burrell each scored 16 points. Wheeler added 13 points, and Dearica Hamby contributed 11. Ogwumike finished with 12 points and three rebounds.

Connecticut improved to 8-7 with the win, while Los Angeles fell to 7-9 on the season.
