Paris police arrested 79 people during clashes that erupted as thousands celebrated Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League final victory on June 1, 2024. Of those detained, 45 were taken into custody.

Approximately 20,000 people gathered on the Champs-Elysees avenue to celebrate the team’s win, while tens of thousands more watched the match inside the Parc des Princes stadium. Clashes broke out near the stadium when between 4,000 and 5,000 people loitered outside and threw projectiles at police officers. About 150 individuals attempted to force entry through one of the stadium gates but were repelled by police.

During the unrest, six vehicles and two businesses were damaged. A bakery and a restaurant near the Parc des Princes stadium were vandalized. A bus shelter was also destroyed near the Champs-Elysees. One police officer was injured in the confrontations.

Police responded with tear gas after fireworks were thrown at them near the stadium. Authorities seized two dozen flares and about 100 fireworks in Paris on Saturday. Some individuals attempted to erect a barricade using rental bikes near the stadium, but police cleared it.

Public transportation was disrupted as a precaution: Paris tram lines were halted, several metro stations shut down, and bus traffic suspended in parts of the city. Shops across central Paris had boarded up their windows ahead of the match to prevent a repeat of last year’s disturbances, when supporters ransacked stores on the Champs-Elysees and other streets following PSG’s Champions League win, leading to hundreds of arrests.

Approximately 22,000 police officers were deployed across France for the final, including 8,000 in Paris. "Our responsibility is to guarantee everyone a festive celebration that is calm and fully secure," a police spokesperson said. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said there was a "very robust, very solid system in place" to curb violence. Fireworks rang out across Paris after Paris Saint-Germain completed their victory in Budapest.
