KNOXVILLE — The Knoxville Police Department reported 18 aggravated assaults in 2024, with approximately 43% classified as domestic in nature. Domestic violence-related calls in Knoxville are higher this year compared to the same period last year.

Marissa Fox, a victim advocate with the Knoxville Police Department, said domestic violence cases often increase during the summer and around holidays. "We do see an uptick in the summer because it is hot, people are barbecuing or trying to go to the pool, things like that. Also around the holidays."

She said domestic violence does not discriminate and often centers on power and control. "Domestic violence, it doesn't discriminate, so the factors that lead to it vary. When it comes to domestic violence, the suspect wants to be in control. They want to take that power and control from that victim. They want to isolate them."
