BLAIRSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA — Amanda Rivera was arrested on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in Blairsville, Pennsylvania, after her son was found on the roof of the family's home trying to hang on the power lines attached to the house. Rivera, 38, was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of children, according to court filings.

The child, who was 7 or 8 years old, climbed out of a window onto the 20-foot-high roof during extremely high winds, according to a neighbor who witnessed the incident. The neighbor called 911 and recorded a video of the boy on the roof.

By the time police arrived, the boy was back inside the residence. Neither child was hurt.

Rivera said she was running errands and spending time at the new house while the family was packing and preparing to move out. Her children are 15 and 8 years old.

Rivera is awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 15, 2026, according to court filings. The hearing will be before Magisterial District Judge Robert Steele Bell Sr. in an Indiana County court.

"I feel for the mother. However, when you have children, you're responsible. Accidents happen, but that's completely unacceptable," said Anna Zadecky, a Blairsville resident. "I think too many people are not paying attention anymore. They don't realize that one little thing could happen so quick, and it changes all their lives forever."
