CHATTANOOGA — Victor Demon Powell Jr. has been charged with criminal homicide, attempted murder, tampering with evidence, and felony reckless endangerment in connection with a March 22 shooting on South Germantown Road in Brainerd that killed a 16-year-old and wounded an 18-year-old. Chattanooga Police responded to multiple calls about the shooting at 2 a.m. and found spent cartridge cases, pools of blood, marijuana, and cash at the scene.

The 16-year-old victim was pronounced dead at a hospital, while the 18-year-old suffered multiple gunshot wounds. According to police, individuals had used Snapchat to arrange a marijuana purchase with Powell before the incident. Electronic records place Powell at the scene of the homicide.

Powell, who is 21 years old, told police he went to the address for a drug deal and said he was in an orange Charger. However, officers reported that he fled the scene in a blue Nissan. Powell deleted his Snapchat account 30 minutes after the shooting and obtained a new cell phone two days later.
