NAMPA, IDAHO — Nampa Mayor Rick Hogaboam collapsed at about 6:45 p.m. during a regional town hall event at Eagle City Hall in Eagle, Idaho. Hogaboam suffered a medical emergency at the town hall event and died shortly after.

Eagle Mayor Brad Pike administered CPR to Hogaboam as 911 was called. "The need was to take care of Rick and he got immediate support," Pike said. "Good, bad or indifferent, I was the last person in his life that was touching him when he passed."

Hogaboam was 47 years old at the time of his death. He was only a few months into his first term as mayor, having been sworn in on Jan. 5.

The City of Nampa issued a statement following the mayor's death. "Keep his family and loved ones in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time," the city said. "As we begin to mourn this unbelievable loss, please provide grace while we navigate the loss of not only our Mayor, but also our friend."

City Council President David Bills is serving as acting mayor of Nampa. An interim mayor will be appointed to fill the position until a new mayoral election in November.

Idaho Governor Brad Little responded to the news in a social media post. "Heartbreaking to hear of the sudden loss of Nampa Mayor Rick Hogaboam. Rick served with a real heart for public service and dedication to the community. His family, city staff, and the Nampa community are in my prayers," Little wrote.

Prior to his election as mayor, Hogaboam served as a Canyon County clerk and a Nampa city councilman. According to his official city biography, Hogaboam served briefly as an Idaho state senator in 2021 as a substitute.

According to his official city biography, Hogaboam was a husband, father and grandfather. The biography also noted he was an avid reader, a lover of baseball, and a Buffalo Bills fan. The Caldwell Police Department said in a Facebook post that Hogaboam dedicated his life to service and described him as a pillar of the community.
