OKLAHOMA CITY — Teagan Kavan pitched a complete-game four-hitter in Texas's 4-0 victory over Mississippi State at the Women's College World Series on Friday. The win kept Texas alive in the tournament after a loss the previous day.

Kavan threw 78 pitches with two strikeouts and no walks in the shutout performance. Her effort came one day after she was the losing pitcher in Texas’s 6-3 defeat to Tennessee on Thursday.

Texas built its lead in the second inning when Kaiah Altmeyer hit her first home run of the season, giving the Longhorns a 2-0 advantage. Kayden Henry later added to the margin with a home run to right field, her 13th hit of the postseason. Eight of Henry’s postseason hits have been for extra bases.

Earlier in the game, Henry also hit a double to left field in the third inning that missed clearing the wall by just a couple of feet. Mississippi State starter Delainey Everett pitched through the fourth inning, allowing Altmeyer’s home run and two other hits.

Xiane Romero accounted for three of Mississippi State’s four hits in the game. The Bulldogs finished the tournament with a 43-21 record after being eliminated following back-to-back shutout losses. Friday marked the end of Mississippi State’s first-ever appearance in the Women's College World Series.

Texas, the second seed in the tournament with a 48-12 record, will play an elimination game on Sunday against the loser of the Alabama and Nebraska matchup. Mississippi State was unseeded in the tournament.
