ALASKA — A second candidate named Dan Sullivan has entered the 2026 U.S. Senate race in Alaska, challenging incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan. Both candidates will appear on the same ballot under Alaska’s open primary system, where the top four vote-getters advance to the general election.

The second Dan Sullivan’s campaign website states, "Dan Sullivan challenges Dan Sullivan for U.S. Senate Seat, urges Alaskans to defeat incumbent, elect a Sullivan who stands up for Alaska." Campaign material announcing the bid was authored by Amber Lee, a progressive consultant whose firm, Amber Strategies, lists clients such as Alaska Women Ascent—a group that aims to train women who are pro-choice, pro-LGBTQ rights, pro-union, anti-racist, and pro-racial justice to serve as candidates and volunteers.

According to his biography, the second Dan Sullivan worked blue-collar jobs including logging, construction, bartending, and forestry before running for Senate. The biography also says he decided to run after growing frustrated with government mismanagement.

The second Dan Sullivan’s campaign did not immediately respond to questions about whether he had been asked to run, whether Federal Election Commission filings were made, or if he intends to run as an independent. His campaign Instagram page has no posts and only two followers. Amber Lee did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

National Republican Senate Committee Spokesperson Nick Puglia said, "Mary Peltola and Chuck Schumer know they can’t beat Senator Sullivan on his record, so they’re resorting to deceitful political maneuvers that attempt to trick Alaskans and buy a seat."

Incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2015 and previously served as Alaska’s attorney general. He won his last reelection with 53.9% of the vote against nonpartisan challenger Al Gross, who received 41.2%. Alaska will hold its Senate primary on August 18, 2026.
