PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to hire Mike Gansey as their president of basketball operations, a person with knowledge of the move confirmed. The decision follows the firing of Daryl Morey earlier in May 2026 after the team was eliminated in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs by the New York Knicks.

Gansey, 43, is a native of Northeast Ohio who has spent his entire front-office career with the Cleveland Cavaliers organization. He joined the Cavaliers in 2011 and previously served as general manager for the Cleveland Charge, the team’s NBA G League affiliate. Since 2022, he has held the role of general manager for the Cavaliers, working under team President Koby Altman.

The hiring represents the first major move by Bob Myers since joining Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment as president of sports in October 2025. Myers, who previously built Golden State Warriors championship teams in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022, led the search for Morey’s replacement. After leaving the Warriors, Myers worked as a commentator at ESPN before taking on his current executive role.

Morey’s departure came after a mixed tenure with the 76ers, during which the team posted a regular-season record of 270-212 but managed only a 28-26 postseason mark. The franchise never advanced past the second round under his leadership and missed the playoffs entirely in the 2024-25 season with a 24-58 record. Despite Morey’s exit, the 76ers opted to retain head coach Nick Nurse.

Before his front-office career, Gansey played college basketball at West Virginia, where he earned first-team All-Big East honors.
