SCOTSTOUN — Glasgow Warriors defeated Connacht 33-21 in the United Rugby Championship play-off quarter-final at Scotstoun on Saturday. The victory secured Glasgow a semi-final berth against either the Bulls or Munster at Murrayfield, which will also host the final if they advance.

Glasgow scored five tries in the match, with Kyle Steyn crossing twice. Patrick Schickerling, Josh McKay, and Jare Oguntibeju added the other tries. George Horne converted three of the five tries. Connacht responded with three tries from Cian Prendergast, Dave Heffernan, and Finlay Bealham, all converted by Sam Gilbert.

Connacht began aggressively, attacking the Glasgow line in the opening minute. Prendergast, the Connacht captain, scored the first try after involvement from Bundee Aki and Josh Ioane. Glasgow leveled the score before halftime through McKay, and the sides were tied 7-7 at the break.

Early in the second half, Steyn executed a 50-22 kick that led to Glasgow’s next try. After a line-out rumble stalled, Sione Tuipulotu passed to Steyn for his first score. Schickerling then powered over from close range following sustained pressure. Connacht’s Sam Illo was sin-binned for offside shortly after Glasgow’s first try of the half.

Connacht responded after the hour mark when Heffernan scored. Oguntibeju replied for Glasgow four minutes later, and replacement prop Bealham crossed for Connacht soon after. Steyn sealed the result with his second try six minutes from full time, though Horne missed the conversion. Glasgow also had two tries disallowed: Johnny Matthews was denied due to Matt Fagerson entering a maul early, and Fagerson had another ruled out for a forward pass. Alex Samuel received a yellow card for Glasgow during the contest.
