FREDERICKSBURG, TEXAS — A house explosion in Gillespie County, Texas, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, injured two residents and prompted a multi-agency emergency response. Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 8:30 a.m. to 16 Serenity Lane in The Overlook at Bear Creek subdivision, located about nine miles south of Fredericksburg near U.S. Highway 87.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the two-story home on a six-acre lot fully involved in fire. The home sustained extensive damage, and a detached outbuilding on the property was damaged by flying debris. Ammunition stored in the home discharged during the fire due to extreme heat.

One of the two injured people was airlifted to a hospital in the San Antonio area. The other was transported by ground ambulance because weather conditions prevented a second helicopter from flying safely.

Investigators believe the explosion was likely caused by a propane gas leak. The explosion occurred when one of the residents attempted to use the stove. The home is equipped with both propane and electric utilities, and a power outage on Tuesday night may have affected appliances or pilot lights, resulting in propane gas accumulating over several hours.

The cause remains under investigation by the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Fredericksburg, the Gillespie County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Authorities stated there is no evidence of criminal wrongdoing and that the incident appears isolated, with no ongoing threat to the public. No further evacuations are expected.
