RALEIGH — The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4-0 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final on Wednesday night, taking a 3-1 series lead. The Hurricanes are now within one win of reaching the Stanley Cup Final.

Sebastian Aho, Jordan Staal, and Logan Stankoven scored in a 2:47 span late in the first period, giving Carolina a commanding lead. Andrei Svechnikov added an empty-net goal in the third period to seal the victory. Goaltender Frederik Andersen recorded 18 saves for his third shutout in 12 postseason games in 2026.

Carolina dominated possession and scoring chances throughout Game 4, outshooting Montreal 43-18 overall and 19-3 in the third period alone. The Hurricanes failed to record a shot on goal during a nearly two-minute 5-on-3 power play opportunity in the game. Across Games 2, 3, and 4 combined, Carolina held a 108-43 shots-on-goal advantage and, according to Natural Stat Trick, a 42-15 edge in high-danger scoring chances.

Carolina scored first in each of the four games of the series. The Hurricanes won Games 2 and 3 in overtime by a score of 3-2 after dropping Game 1 by a 6-2 margin, during which they allowed four goals in the first 11-plus minutes. The team is 11-1 through the first three rounds of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, including sweeps of the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers, and is undefeated in five road playoff games this year.

"Right now, when you get into these grooves, it’s just kind of the machine. You just kind of want to keep it running, keep doing what you’re doing. I don’t think the guys will waver too far from the next shift, the next play, the hyper-focus that we’re on," Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal said. Head coach Rod Brind’Amour added, "I’m not pointing at any negative on this game, no chance."

Montreal defenseman Alexandre Carrier acknowledged the challenge ahead but expressed optimism. "It’s a big opportunity. We’re not dead yet. So it’s important to really be excited for tomorrow and confident. And I’m excited to see what we can do," he said.

Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final is scheduled for Friday night in North Carolina. The series winner will face the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final.
