CHARLOTTESVILLE — The University of Virginia men’s basketball team will face Old Dominion on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, as part of its 2026-27 nonconference schedule. The game marks the first meeting between the two programs since December 22, 2012.

That previous contest, held at the Richmond Coliseum as part of the Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic, ended in a 63-61 victory for Old Dominion. Joe Harris scored 18 points for UVA in that game, while Dimitri Batten came off the bench to score 23 points for Old Dominion. UVA holds a 9-5 all-time record against the Monarchs in men’s basketball.

Old Dominion has undergone several conference transitions since their last meeting with UVA, leaving the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for Conference USA in 2012 and joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2021. The Monarchs finished the 2025-26 season with a 12-21 overall record and went 7-11 in Sun Belt play. They made one NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012, as a 14-seed in 2019, but fell to Purdue in the Round of 64.

The upcoming game continues a recent trend of UVA scheduling in-state nonconference opponents. It will be the Cavaliers’ third such matchup since December 2021. UVA lost to James Madison 52-49 in Harrisonburg in December 2021, then defeated the Dukes 55-50 in Charlottesville in December 2022. Most recently, UVA beat Hampton 91-53 in Charlottesville in November of the 2025-26 season.

UVA enters the 2026-27 season as one of only two power conference programs returning all of its eligible players. The team will be led by head coach Ryan Odom, while Old Dominion will be coached by Mike Jones. UVA’s nonconference strength of schedule ranked 269th nationally in the 2025-26 season according to KenPom.
